Borealis is the most
information-rich piece I've done to date, due to the simple expedient of not
erasing all of the construction details by sanding. The sculptural form created
by the cutting and gluing process still contains much of the information used to
assemble the pieces. The numbers that are still visible code for (from left to right): the board
number the piece came from, the position of the crosscut section it came from, its position left to right,
and finally whether it is a left-hand pieces or a right-hand piece, which determines
whether it is part of a convex or concave curve.
